In a format where teams of four players compete in three new age divisions, C. R. Walker Senior High, S. C. McPherson and Queen's College came away champions in the prestigious Insurance Management Bahamas School Teams Championships held at College of the Bahamas on June 28.

Overall champions and winners of the Senior High (19 & Under) Division was C. R. Walker, led by Bahamas Junior Champion Elton Joseph. Together with team mates Debaro Huyler, Walter Rolle and Charles Ash, C. R. Walker pipped Cat Island's Old Bight High School by 14 wins to 12. Old Bight High School won the Senior High championships two years running in 2000 and 2001.

Third place in the 19 and Under was College of the Bahamas invitational team which scored a respectable 11.5 wins.

In the 15 and Under Division, last year's champions S.C. McPherson retained their trophy, beating Temple Christian and the two teams that tied for third: A. F. Adderley and South Haven Christian Academy.

In the largest age division, the 12 and Under, Queen's College scored an overwhelming 21 wins out of 24 leaving a close battle to be fought for 2nd and 3rd place between Gerald Cash Primary (13 points) and South Haven (12 points). Queen's College scored the highest percentage of victories in the tournament.

In remarks to the students at the trophy presentation, Bahamas Chess Federation Thierry Boeuf urged the players to start training seriously for the International Florida Chess Orange Bowl in December. He reminded students that chess has been shown to increase academic scores and often helps students to find better jobs.

Boeuf praised Insurance Management for its generous support in helping the Chess In Schools program conducted by Warren Seymour. Boeuf also encouraged the students to attend the Federation's tuition classes held by Mr Seymour each Saturday.

The Federation' next tournament is the Independence Tornado held on July 12th at C. C. Sweeting Senior High. The format will be Swiss format, 30 minutes per game
