Gibson, Joseph To Clash For Chess Championship

Following the Bank of the Bahamas Fall Chess Classic hosted earlier this month 18-year old Elton Joseph, a student at the College of the Bahamas emerged as the top contender to Frank Gibson, the reigning Bahamas National Chess Champion.

The two chess wizards will play a six-game match in November to decide the 2005-2006 Champion.

In the open division of the Fall Classic, Gibson and Joseph finished tied for first with 3 1/2 points. They each won three games and they both had a one draw.

Thierry Boeuf and Lemaro Thompson were tied for third with three wins and one loss each.

Sanchez brown was the top player in the Reserve Division with 2 1¼2 points followed by Lincoln Knowles and Clive Stuart tied for second with two wins and two losses each.

The only two players in the Rook Division, Akini Morris and Sameer Chopra tied for first with two points each. They each recorded two wins and two loses.

In the Bishop Division Dion McPhee finished with 1 1/2 points off a win a two loses. He out-maneuvered Taran McPhee who was second with one point after finishing the tournament with one win and three loses.
