The War is now Over
The nationals are now over, Frank Gibson has once again kept his title as the Bahamas National Champion for the third time in a row, by conquering yet another foe in a glorious victory. Picking up the second place was Elton Joseph. In other categories Mikala Allen played well and took home the Under 10 victory with Talbot McKinney running behind. Since both were from South Haven it was an over all victory. While in the Under 12 Akini Morris fought a honorable fight but it was a little to late to defeat John Pintard who played well during his games. Morgan Worrell defeated Jesse Wheeler to win the title of best under Under 14 chess player in The Bahamas. For the Under 16 title a great battle was fought, between two players of almost equal skill and power. Kristian Plakaris showed mad skills and endurance during his games just to have victory snatched from his hands by Sanchez Brown who fought the good fight and won the last two matches. By the last round a draw would have allowed Kristian to win but Sanchez some how won to tie the score and then won the tie breaker to take the title. In the Under 18 Lemaro Thompson won the title with no sweat, after the first two losses his opponent stopped coming. It was hard to find an opponent for Lemaro for his acquired skills and strategies in chess are undefeatable by any under 18 player in The Bahamas except for his brother LeRoy and rival Elton Joseph. In the Reserve division Clive Stuart won easily to one of the most dignified chess players in the Federation Ashton McQuary. Even after losing 5 straight games this young man still showed up to the last match with his head help high, showing great honour and respect for his opponent. For in loosing their is still much you can learn, if only more chess players were like him. A long and skilled battle was fought between old rivals and friends Warren Seymour Sr. and Leroy McLean. Still fighting old age battles in was war during the tournament between these to powerful seniors, but in the end, Leroy McLean to the Seniors division title in a closely fought matches.
