BYRON SMALL TAKES FALL CHESS CLASSIC 2007

  

The Fall Chess Classic 2007 which was sponsored by The Bank of The Bahamas concluded on Saturday 15th September at C.W. Sawyer Primary School.  The tournament hosted forty four (44) players in four (4) Divisions.  The Open Division was played over three days and was the final qualifier for the 35th Bahamas National Chess Championship 2007.  The other Divisions were played as a one day Rapid Tournament.

The winners of the various Divisions were:

Byron Small – Open Division;

Kristian Plakaris – U1600 Division;

Jesse Wheeler – U1400 Division;

Travis Miller – U1200 Division;

Ramon Patterson – U1000 Division;

From the Open Division the following players qualified to play in the Bahamas Chess Nationals schedule for November this year:

Byron Small;

Bjarni Saemundson;

Elton Joseph; and

Milton Evans.

These four players join six others that have already qualified to play in the Nationals namely:

Charles Duncombe – Defending Chess Champion;

Ken Gibson;

Warren Seymour;

Kean Smith;

Leroy McLean; and

Gerald Higgs.

            In order for Higgs to play in the Chess National he will have to play in and complete The Heroes Day Tournament which is schedule for October this year.
