| The Bahamas Chess
Federation has been using facilities in C.C. Sweeting Senior
High School for the past few years and we are grateful to the
principal of the school to allow us the access for our chess
tuition and tournaments.
However, the open outdoor space where we conduct these different
activities offers little protection from rain and wind and,
unfortunately, does not have storage facilities needed for our
teaching materials such as chess boards, books, chess clocks and
documents. Neither does the space allow us to display properly
the various trophies and photos accumulated over the 30 years of
existence of the Federation.
In many cities of the size of Nassau, chess clubs are part of
the social life, with various groups of people being able to
share and enjoy their premises in relative comfort. Often, you
will see groups of elderly retired people or very young children
meeting in the afternoons and on the weekends. We want to
encourage, as much as possible, children and adults to
congregate in a friendly, safe environment for lessons and to
share experiences.
For these reasons, the Chess Federation is seeking new premises
in good surroundings that fulfill the following requirements:
* 500 square feet minimum to be able to hold training
courses and small tournaments.
* Proper bathrooms and a secure access at all times.
* A central location that is easily reached by most people
around New Providence.
If you know or have an idea of a suitable place, please call us
and we can make enquiries with the building management. Please
