Notes:

Grand Prix

In this exciting year-long competition, BCF members have the opportunity to earn points by simply participating in tournaments.  Bonus points are awarded to those placing in the top four of a qualifying tournament.  Points accumulate throughout the year, giving everyone a fair shot at special prizes to be awarded at the end of the year.  Note that the March Madness, Bahamas Blitz, Bahamas National Championship, Bahamas Junior Championship, and Scholastic tournaments are not designated as Grand Prix events.

Grand Prix Tournament Point System

1st place – 6 points

2nd place – 4 points

3rd place – 3 points

4th place – 2 points

5th place – 1 points

All participants – 10 points

(Note that top-five finishers also receive participation points.  Thus the winner of a Grand Prix tournament earns a total of 16 points, while someone placing 4th receives a total of 12 points.)

Cash Prizes

The Federation reserves the right to offer non-cash prizes at some tournaments throughout the year.  Details will be provided in the appropriate Tournament Notices.

 Nationals Qualifiers

Each Open tournament on the calendar, except for the March Madness and Bahamas Blitz Open, is a qualifier for the Bahamas National Championship.  The winner of each qualifier automatically earns a spot in the Nationals. If the winner has already qualified, the second-place finisher is offered the spot.  If the second-place finisher has already qualified, the third-place finisher is provided with the spot, etc.

 The Warren Seymour Classic

In 2012, the Bahamas Chess Federation will introduce the Warren Seymour Classic tournament to honor the more than 30 years of service that Mr. Warren Seymour has dedicated to the Federation, the Government, and to the educational system of The Bahamas.  His devotion to the game and to our youth is unmatched and should be celebrated.

 Bahamas Junior Championship

Based on activity, ratings, and recent tournament performance, a small group of junior players is selected to compete in the annual Bahamas Junior Championship.

 Bahamas National Championship

This closed event is intended to be a ten-player single round robin tournament.  Players qualify based on their relative performances in nine designated events throughout the calendar year (see “National Qualifiers” above).
